Originally built in 1952 and designed by architect Melvin Grossman, a familiar name in the history of Miami Beach, the Kaskades hotel underwent a renovation in 2013 in which the structure was reconstructed and a new floor was added.
Studio Mc+G’s participated in the construction of a new 1642sf lobby addition that included a new lobby, coffee area, restroom facilities and modifications to other areas thus creating additional rooms.
Thoughtfully designed to minimally impact historical east and north facades, in a manner consistent with the site’s available development rights, Studio Mc+G’s layout proudly connects the new structure to the existing one via a skylight that allows natural light and visually connects to guestrooms above. Its feature roof carries the architectural language of the existing building, and its storefront celebrates its lush surrounding landscape blending with the Art Deco historic district of Miami Beach.
